Kiwanis One Day

Kiwanis members serve their communities all year long. But the excitement for service really builds in early April each year when Kiwanis members come together for Kiwanis One Day—a day of community service that is felt around the world.

The entire Kiwanis family—Kiwanis Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, Aktion Club and Kiwanis clubs—joins forces for this large-scale service project. Any project, big or small, is worth tackling. Projects fill a specific need in each community and have included everything from building playgrounds to volunteering at a shelter to stocking shelves at a food pantry.

Read Around the World

Every child should experience the joy of reading. Here is what our club is doing to encourage the love of reading and access to books in our community:

  • ???? Reading Program: We will host read-a-thon, sponsor prizes for reading goals for grades K-12 and host story hours
  • Host Thursday morning toddler reading program "Story Time & Rhymes" at the Green Library Branch from 9-10 a.m.
  • Provide bookmarks to our sponsored elementary schools
  • Purchase books for the children's hospital library and create/apply Kiwanis club bookplates in each one.

Young Children Priority One

Young Children Priority One is a signature club project of Kiwanis International. It focuses on children prenatal through age 5 in four areas:

  1. Maternal and child health
  2. Child care and development
  3. Parent education and support
  4. Safety and pediatric trauma

Our club assesses what the youngest members in our area need the most, then we address those needs. Here is what we have planned this year through hands-on service projects, fundraising and volunteering:

  • March for Babies Relay
  • Immunization/flu shot clinics
  • Smoke alarm distribution
  • Toddler reading program at the library
  • Parenting fair
  • Home safety checklists
  • Children's Miracle Network hospital radiothon phone bank
